Joel Pierson - Musical Director explains how singers should work with musicians

I've known Joel Pierson and his partner, vocalist Tara Khaler, for many years and finally had the chance to interview them at their home in New York. The interview is split in two parts. Originally trained as a classical pianist, Joelwent on to complete a Master?s Degree in jazz piano performance in his home town at New York University. Though he now focusses on  composition and improvised music he did find time to work as a Musical Director on one of the world's premier cruise lines.

Having worked with around 300 acts in a little over a year he has seen the good, the bad and the ugly. In part 1 of this double interview, he talks about the importance of good musical arrangements and shares a few tips for aspiring cabaret artistes.
